Where Can You Go? Top Itineraries and Suggested Routes for Your Go Explore Motorhome Trip Not sure where to go on your first or next motorhome adventure? This guide shares four stunning Scottish routes — from Skye to the Cairngorms — with tips on what to see, how long to travel, and why exploring by motorhome is the best way to see it all.

Whether you’re planning your first motorhome holiday or returning to discover more of Scotland’s epic landscapes, the big question is: where should we go? With a Go Explore motorhome, your journey becomes as memorable as the destinations themselves. From lochside sunsets to castle views and winding coastal roads, the possibilities are endless — but here are four popular itineraries to get you started.

1. The West Coast & Isle of Skye Adventure

Suggested duration: 5–7 days
Start point: Glasgow

Head north from Glasgow along Loch Lomond before reaching the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe. Continue through Fort William and up to the iconic Isle of Skye. You’ll find waterfalls, the Fairy Pools, Talisker Bay, and postcard-worthy views at every turn. Spend a couple of nights here before returning via Loch Ness and the Great Glen.

Highlights: Glenfinnan Viaduct, Eilean Donan Castle, Skye’s wild west coast, Loch Ness
Tip: Book Skye campsites in advance — they fill quickly!

2. The Cairngorms & Whisky Trail

Suggested duration: 3–5 days
Start point: Edinburgh or Glasgow

Head northeast through Pitlochry and into the heart of the Cairngorms. This national park offers woodland walks, quiet lochs and great cycling. Visit distilleries like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich along the Speyside trail, then loop back via Braemar and Royal Deeside.

Highlights: Balmoral Castle, Highland Wildlife Park, whisky distilleries, mountain scenery
Tip: This is a relaxed, family-friendly route with good campsite options.

3. Historic Scotland Explorer

Suggested duration: 4–6 days
Start point: Edinburgh

Dive into the country’s heritage with a route that includes Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, the Trossachs National Park, and onwards to Fort William. Return via Oban, known for fresh seafood and island views, or swing inland for a castle trail through Perthshire.

Highlights: Castles, historic battlefields, charming lochs and towns
Tip: Ideal if you're combining sightseeing with walking and local culture.

4. Lochs, Castles & Coast: Short West Coast Circuit

Suggested duration: 2–4 days
Start point: Glasgow

Perfect for first-timers or shorter breaks, this compact loop includes Loch Lomond, Inveraray, Oban and Loch Awe. Stunning water views, scenic roads, and enough variety for a full adventure in just a few days.

Highlights: Loch Fyne seafood, Kilchurn Castle, coastal sunsets
Tip: You’ll still feel like you’ve travelled far — without covering too many miles.
