Exploring Oban, Scotland: A Magical Motorhome Journey with Go Explore Scotland

Scotland, a land of rugged beauty, where the mountains meet the sea, and the air is filled with the scent of wildflowers and the sound of bagpipes. A place where history and nature intertwine, creating a tapestry of experiences that are as diverse as they are enchanting. One of the best ways to explore this magical land is by motorhome, and there is no better place to start your journey than in the charming coastal town of Oban.

Our journey began with Go Explore Scotland, a motorhome rental company that offers a unique way to experience the Scottish landscape. With a fleet of modern, comfortable motorhomes, they provide the freedom to explore at your own pace, with all the comforts of home. Whether you're a couple seeking a romantic getaway or a family looking for an adventurous holiday, a motorhome journey through Oban and beyond promises an unforgettable experience.

Oban, known as the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland', is a picturesque harbour town nestled on the west coast. The town itself is a delightful mix of traditional Scottish architecture, bustling seafood restaurants, and quaint shops selling local crafts. The motorhome provided by Go Explore Scotland was our home base, a cosy retreat after a day of exploring.

Our first stop was McCaig's Tower, a colossal, Colosseum-like structure that dominates the Oban skyline. The uphill walk was a bit of a challenge, but the panoramic views of the town, the harbour, and the distant islands were well worth the effort. Back in our motorhome, we enjoyed a well-deserved rest, the comforts of our mobile home providing a welcome respite.

The next day, we set off for the Oban Distillery, one of the oldest in Scotland. The guided tour was a fascinating insight into the art of whisky making, and of course, a tasting session was included. The smoky, peaty flavours of the Oban malt were a perfect end to the tour. The beauty of travelling in a motorhome is that we could then retire to our comfortable living space, parked just a short distance away.

A visit to Oban would not be complete without a trip to the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary. A hit with both adults and children, the sanctuary is home to a variety of marine life, including seals, otters, and an array of colourful fish. The joy on our children's faces as they watched the playful antics of the seals was a highlight of our trip.

The weather in Scotland can be unpredictable, but this only adds to the charm. One moment the sun is shining, casting a golden glow over the landscape, the next moment the clouds roll in, and the rain begins to fall, creating a mystical atmosphere that is quintessentially Scottish. But in a motorhome, the weather is never a problem. We could enjoy the changing landscapes from the comfort of our warm, dry living space, a cup of hot tea in hand.

Our journey took us further afield to the Isle of Mull, a short ferry ride from Oban. The island is a nature lover's paradise, with its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and abundant wildlife. We parked our motorhome in a secluded spot by the beach, the gentle sound of the waves lulling us to sleep.

The beauty of a motorhome journey is the freedom it offers. We could stay as long as we wanted in one place, or move on when the mood took us. We could explore off the beaten track, discovering hidden gems that we would never have found otherwise. And at the end of each day, we could return to our comfortable, cosy motorhome, our home away from home.

Our journey through Oban and beyond was a magical experience, a journey of discovery and adventure. The landscapes were breathtaking, the attractions fascinating, and the freedom of travelling in a motorhome was liberating. Whether you're a couple seeking a romantic escape or a family looking for an adventurous holiday, a motorhome journey with Go Explore Scotland offers an unforgettable experience. So why not pack your bags, hit the road, and go explore Scotland?
